Colonel Sanders : The man behind KFC

You must have heard about or been a regular visitor at KFC-Kentucky Fried Chicken. I love the place and their chicken , but their story is even more interesting and does full justice to the quote that ‘age is just a number’. The story of the founder Colonel Sanders is very inspiring as it portrays the importance of hard work and dedication and the will to succeed ,irrespective or your age .

Believe it or not Colonel Sanders started selling this “finger lickin’ good” fried chicken at the age 65 , post his retirement with the 105 dollars that he got as his first social security check . If was almost without money at that time but decided to share his delicious fried chicken recipe with the world .He did not start with a restaurant, but went door to door to all the local restaurants and houses hoping that he would get someone to help him set up his own fried chicken place , but sadly he did not succeed  .He then decided to travel a little further in his car in order to meet more restaurant owners . He cooked the chicken in font of these people with a pact that if any owner liked the chicken ,there would be ‘handshake agreement between them to sell his chicken. So  when did he get his first handshake ? Colonel Sanders had to go through almost 1009 no’s before getting the first positive yes from Pete Harman from South Salt Lake, Utah. Now that’s called dedication and determination , he did not give up ! Together they launched the first “Kentucky Fried Chicken” outlet in 1952.

There was no stopping post that. By the early 1960’s there were over 600 franchised locations in the U.S. and Canada selling this scrumptious chicken. Colonel Sanders sold the franchising operation for $2 million in 1964. The franchise has been sold three other times post that and remains to be a well-known successful business.  Colonel Sanders  was ranked as the world’s second most recognizable celebrity in 1976.

Isn’t this a fabulous and inspiring story ? A man started building his dream into reality at the age of 65 . Did his age stop him ? No , age for him for just a number. All that he believed in was himself , his determination to achieve what he wanted. So never let your age stop you from achieving what you want to and never stop dreaming . They say that ‘where there is a will there is way ‘
